China, Indonesia navies to hold navigation exercise east of Taiwan island in mid-August

In mid-August, China's naval ship Honghe will conduct a navigation exercise with an Indonesian Navy ship at east of the Taiwan island.

The drill will focus on subjects including communication drills and underway replenishment. It aims to boost the two navies' capacity for joint operations, deepen practical bilateral cooperation and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability, according to China's Ministry of National Defense on Tuesday. A video clip published by the website of China Central Television (CCTV) in April unveiled how Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy Type 054A guided-missile frigate Honghe, with its main gun loaded, drove away a foreign warship after 20 hours of standoff.

In the clip from the documentary, the Honghe was deployed emergently after a foreign vessel attempted to "forcefully transit in the Taiwan Straits." The foreign vessel was larger in tonnage and the two vessels were only one to two hundred meters away from each other at the closest, according to CCTV.
