SAGA — A new collaborative event with the popular manga “Kingdom,” which is set in ancient China, is being held in Saga through September, coinciding with the summer break from school.
“Through this latest initiative, we hope to encourage fans who have already visited [a ‘Kingdom’ event] to come back again,” an official said. The Furuyu Onsen hot spring district in Saga has decorated its entrance gate, and flags on streetlights and panels for photo spots have been set up along the street. The area will be known as the “Furuyu Kingdom hot spring village” for the duration of the duration of the event.
Saga Airport has also put out more decorations featuring Kingdom characters at its tourist information center and at entrances and exits. These collaborative events came about because Yasuhisa Hara — the creator of “Kingdom,” which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in serialization — is a native of Kiyama in Saga Prefecture.
In May, the 300-meter-long “Dokuha Tei” water-break — a display project featuring all 16,290 pages from Kingdom volumes 1 through 78 on the breakwater in Higashiyoka, Saga — was recognized by Guinness World Records as the “Longest continuous outdoor display of manga pages.”
